Home for the Holidays
Christmas in Seattle is so special to me. I didn't realize how much I missed this area after I went off to school, but coming home during the holiday season is always special. As I've gotten older, I've begun to appreciate the area around me more and more. There are so many businesses and experiences that have come and gone in my 21 years living in the area, and being able to explore the places I have never seen is exactly what I love to do. Seattle (and the surrounding area) is like nowhere on earth. It's one of my favorite cities on this planet, and I am so lucky to have been born and raised in such a beautiful and unique place.
My family never really had the big family Christmas celebrations. We would celebrate the holidays by traveling! We've spent the holidays in New York City, Disney World, and Belgium (to name a few)! We like to give memories and experiences as gifts rather than things. We love to look at each other and say, "Remember that time when..."
As my brother and I have gotten older, we've been spending more time at home, adventuring around while the cruise ships are gone. It's so much more fun to be a tourist in your own city when you're not fighting the crowds of people to hit your favorite spots.
This past weekend, my parents and I took a little day trip downtown to Pike Place Market! I always love going down there at Christmastime. It's always so festive downtown, and all of the other locals come out of the woodwork to enjoy their city. We enjoyed breakfast at Lowell's in the market, grabbed coffee from Ghost Alley Espresso, and filled a growler of Rachel's Ginger Beer. I love shopping small and supporting local businesses, especially when buying gifts for the holidays. I shamelessly love watching the famous Pike Place Fish Market fishmongers do their thing, even though I have no plan on buying their fish! Pike Place Market has so many amazing local vendors and artisans, and even in the wintertime, the Hmong farmers have beautiful bouquets for the holiday season.
